Grass Roots
Have we lost our roots, have we lost our way?
Has the grass grown thin, top soil blown away?
Are we out of touch with the place we’re in, do we know the roads/streets where we’ve always been?
Have we cast our seed far beyond our field Did the tangled weeds choke the crops we yield?
Have we lost our sense of community, is a barb wire fence round our property?

Have we lost the plot where our fruits could grow? Where we earned our lot sharing skills we know...
Do we know the names in our neighbourhood, cos it seems a shame and it seems we should!
And all familiar faces we see around and unexplored places yet to be found,
Vicinity in my country my district, town community, where everything we/I need is here, to see us/me through another year, we’ll/I’ll find it here!

Have we lost our roots, have we lost our way, has the moss grown hard on the fields we play?
Have they closed the bars where we used to meet, is it just the cars hissing through these streets?
Cos all familiar faces we see around and unexplored places yet to be found,

Vicinity in our country our district, town community, where everything we need is here, to see us through another year,
With playgrounds, parks and corner shops, and gardens where we can grow our crops,
And festivals and village fetes, where we can gather, celebrate, the place we live so much to give

Can we find grass roots, planted in our Earth, cos it’s what we choose that can show our worth,
Is it where we are where we want to be? Can we plant our roots in our community?
